Rally to Restore Sanity/March to Keep Fear Alive

The Maryland/DC, Northern Virginia and Baltimore Chaperts of WASH are all members of local Coalitions of Reason. The Rally to Restore Sanity will be drawing many tens of thousands of people from around the country. The plan is for the dozens of local Coalition of Reason groups from around the country to gather behind one large common national banner. So this is much more than a meeting of our local coalition. The following directions were given out by the national United Coalition of Reason: WHERE: Our gathering point is the Navy Memorial at the Archives-Navy Memorial Metro Station on the Green and Yellow Lines. Specifically, we will congregate in front of the Navy Memorial on the Pennsylvania Avenue side near 7th Street, NW. (The Metro escalators empty toward this location and the Metro elevator empties onto 7th Street just around the corner.) WHEN: The timing of the Rally to Restore Sanity, gathering on the National Mall, is from 12:00 Noon to 3:00 PM EST. But, to get a good spot, we will come together at the Navy Memorial earlier, between 10:30 and 11:00 AM. Then, at 11:00 AM, we will walk as a group, behind the Coalition of Reason banner, the two blocks down 7th to the National Mall, and from there direct ourselves to the best location we can find. Joining us will be the contingent from the American Humanist Association. RALLY LOCATION: The rally is gathering in view of the Capitol building,
Rally location, between 3rd and 7th. For details and tips on getting there from where you live, go
here Indicators are that there will be large crowds at this rally, numbering in the tens of thousands. This means Metro stations and trains will be full to capacity. So it is recommended that you start out early to be sure you can board a Metro train in time to reach the Archives-Navy Memorial station before 11:00 AM and join us. Don't try driving downtown as there will likely be no parking spaces by the time you get there. If you are staying at a hotel, you may be near a suitable bus line that will take you to the Navy Memorial or to a Metro station. Learn the details beforehand from your concierge. (It is possible to get to the Archives-Navy Memorial station from any station in the Metro system with no more than one change of trains.)

The CBS funded crowd estimate was 215,000 with a +- expected error of 10%. The same methodology said the Glen Beck rally had 87,000. This suggests that there are many more people who are moderate, reasonable and frankly sane. Beyond that the Rally was just a huge amount of fun and the music was great.
