Community Service Event: Helping the homeless

This event will be a coordination event. We will be doing a mid-march outreach activity. For this event, we will be talking about who can do what, and how can we do it, also setting a second community service event for April up.

Hello everyone, we are assembling care packages for the homeless.

As we are new to this type of outreach, we are going to start small and uncomplicated. We are going to be going out and meeting those who are most vulnerable and least influential, and distributing care packages.

We realize that taking on a target like helping the homeless can be substantially overwhelming. There is so much to do, so little of us, and we are just giving an aspirin to a head wound. Yet, there is only one life, and making life more comfortable for others in a bad spot is wholly better than doing nothing at all. Secondly, there is a lot that we can do, but we don't want to lose focus or get overwhelmed.

We will be pursuing our first community service project as an exploratory outreach act. We will be setting our target at helping 200 people. Chris and Jason went out one evening and interviewed several people whom were living on the street. Our interviewees told us that they are often given soap, but nothing to store it in. So in response to this and other articles mentioned, we will be assembling care packages and distributing them.

We are asking for in-kind or monetary donations to make this happen.

Jennifer Brauer is going to be contacting retail and whole-sale outfits to ask for direct-item donations, Dan Feldman is going to be managing our Secular Community promotions.

Here is what the Association needs to help others:

200 persons:

600 1-gallon freezer bags (to give water-proofing options)
200 plastic soap dishes
200 bars of unscented soap
Packs of unopened, instant coffee and tea
200 pairs of new socks

––––––––––––––––––––

We will be collecting at all of our meetings or at Mickey Maynard's storefront

3350 Sports Arena Blvd Ste F
San Diego, CA 92109

We are also opening a minimum $5 cash donation on here feel free to donate more, but if everyone donates at least $5 we can make this happen.

thanks so much, and more information will be announced later.

Can I bring my auxiliary, snack-sized dog? He's a therapy dog and very well-mannered.
