Humanism in San Diego Since 1970

Welcome to the Humanist Association of San Diego (HASD's) Meetup page. The Humanist Association is a dynamic organization offering freethought fellowship, advocacy, and educational programs and events.

The Humanist Association of San Diego is a dedicated to the advancement and advocacy of Secular Humanism, the philosophy of Free Thought, and Humanist Community building.

What we do:

We offer a biweekly guided discussion group (Coffee & Conversation) on current events and philosophical topics (usually held at the Bamboo Lounge in Hillcrest).

We offer a monthly lecture series on Humanist Issues (usually on Controversial Topics, the Separation of Church and State, Civil Rights, and Science Issues).

We hold the annual Southern California Secular Humanist Conference.

We host a yearly Logical Fallacy and Argumentation Workshop every October.

For the past 15 consecutive years we have marched in the San Diego Pride Parade. We also go on a yearly whale watch, and have various fun picnics and parties throughout the year.

We have the services of a Humanist Celebrant to serve your wedding and life-celebration needs.

Politically, we tend to swing left and have taken to the streets against the Iraq War and in support of Equal Marriage. We had the City of San Diego Proclaim Charles Darwin's 200th Birthday, led San Diego's first Humanist invocation, and in 1981, former HASD President Phil Paulson led the charge of separation of church and state by taking on the constitutionally-violating Mt. Soledad Easter Sunrise Cross.

Whether you like top-flight academic lectures, intellectual roundtable smart-assed free-for-alls, snorkeling, karaoke, or just meeting other interesting people, we are the group for you.

Since 1970 the Humanist Association has been a progressive and unifying freethought voice in San Diego City and County.  We are a Chartered Chapter of the American Humanist Association, and an affiliate of the Council for Secular Humanism and San Diego Coalition of Reason.
