Dance with Matt Harding (YouTube "Where the Hell is Matt?")

The Humanism of Dancing Badly on YouTube

Matt Harding tells the story of how his goofy travel videos became an accidental internet sensation in the early days of YouTube, then gradually evolved into a tool for breaking cultural barriers and finding the simple ways in which we’re all the same. His videos have been viewed over 90 million times and are shown to students in classrooms around the world.

All ages are welcome.

I like very much Matt Harding's dance because it shows the irrepressibility of the human spirit. While my criticism at the lecture did not win me any friends, it had to be said. As far as I am concern, insofar as he accepted corporate money for his project, I felt he sold out. By so doing he allowed corporate interest to usurp that positive human spirit for the purpose of channeling it into the branding of the corporate image. In that way he was bought off by his desire of the good life at the expense positive expression of others for a use that they did not know about and had not approve.

As an example, did he even consider what might have happened to the North Koren woman who danced with him. Yes, in that particular dance, he did managed to check off a particularly difficult country on his list, but did he even considered that the North Korean woman could be sent to the gulag. Given that situation, I would have at least considered the fate of the other before acting.
