Hike at Blue Sky Reserve in Poway

Springtime is the best time of year for hiking in San Diego.   HFSD members and guests are invited to a hike at the Blue Sky Reserve that features beautiful views of Lake Poway and many colorful wildflowers.  We will do this hike at close to the peak of wildflower season.  This hike also provides a good chance to see wildlife, especially birds.

This hike is about five miles long and will take about two hours.  We will wait for everyone.  The hike is of average difficulty.  The most difficult part is the climb to the dam at Lake Poway.  After that, it's fairly easy.   Hikers should be in fairly good shape to participate.  The main hazard here is rattlesnakes, but they are not a problem if one uses normal precautions.

What to bring:  plenty of water, sunglasses, sunscreen and a wide-brimmed hat. Sturdy hiking shoes or boots are recommended.  Feel free to contact Wilfredo if you have any questions about the hike.

Optional Luncheon

Let's treat ourselves to a delicious lunch after the hike at Luc's Bistro, 12642 Poway Road between Silver Lake Drive and Ridgedale Drive.  This restaurant serves great comfort food at reasonable prices and has healthy and vegetarian choices.

It was a fun and invigorating hike, as usual, albeit without the plethora of wildflowers we are used to seeing this time of the year due to California's drought. The luncheon at Luc's Bistro was delicious and we had some thought-provoking conversation. Thanks to everyone who participated. I'll schedule more hikes in the future.

I did this hike this past Saturday and I'm sorry to inform you intrepid hikers that there are few wildflowers at the reserve and no water in the creek due to the persistent California drought. (Maybe we should pray for rain at Qualcomm Stadium, similar to what Rick Perry did in Texas.) However, it's still a great hike with beautiful views and I enjoy it every time. I look forward to hiking with you there.

I think Luc's bistro has a coupon on either living social or groupon for half off.

Groupons are typically for a fixed amount, not a percentage of purchase. I don't know what the parameters are for Living Social.
