Tree planting with SD County Dept of Parks & Recreation

The County of San Diego Dept of Parks & Recreation is looking for volunteers to help plant trees in El Monte County Park in east county, not too far from the foot of the dam at El Capitan reservoir and the San Diego river.

Note: If you haven't visited the dam, this would be a great opportunity to do so.

Please being gloves and sturdy shoes/boots. And water and a snack if you like (however, there is a water fountain in the park).

The County of San Diego Department of Parks and Recreation strives to have a park and recreation system that is the pride of San Diego County. We offer camping, fishing, boating, hiking, picnicking, weddings, interpretive programs, nature study, volunteer opportunities, trails, senior centers, and youth programs. We serve a population of approximately 3,000,000 within 4,200 square miles. We have over 90 locations, including campgrounds, picnic parks, open space preserves, historic sites, community centers, teen centers, sports complexes, local parks and wetlands.

Mission Statement
To enhance the quality of life in San Diego by providing opportunities for high quality parks and recreation experiences and to preserve regionally significant natural and cultural resources.

Hello, Said! No problem. We'll save a tree for you! :-)

El Monte is a nice park. I was there many years ago as background for the filming of the TV show "Pensacola". It will be good to see how the park has developed over the years.

That "Pensacola" show was a joke, Mike. Anyone who has been there knows that the beach sand is sugar white. The beaches on the show had grey and black sand. They could have at least used CG to make the San Diego beach sand look white!

This is a worthy effort. Unfortunately, being a Monday - Friday working stiff, I won't be able to attend. Have fun! People should take advantage of the county parks system. Many of these parks are beautiful and have excellent facilities.

    Sounds great Michael! :-)

I am looking forward to see the place…on the map it looks like a nice place for future family picnics.

I might come a bit late due to dropping off my son at school and then find the place (never been there), but I'll be there.
