River and Community Cleanup in Central Mission Valley
Help save a river while making Mission Valley a healthier community for everyone!
The vision of the San Diego River Park Foundation is to protect and enhance the San Diego River’s valuable natural and cultural resources and encourage communities to embrace this legacy and to celebrate it with the creation of a river-long park system as the river journeys from the hills and mountains near Julian and Santa Ysabel to the Pacific Ocean.
The San Diego River Park will offer a variety of opportunities reflecting the communities in which the river is travelling through. It will be a unified system of parks, trails and open space. In some places there will be community plazas, public art and educational facilities and in some a more outdoor-focused experience for trail users and even wilderness opportunities. The green ribbon can serve to connect and unify the local landscape, and serve as a source of local pride for generations to come.
This week the San Diego River Park Foundation is collaborating with the City of San Diego Rangers to clean up a section of the river that is normally off-limits. Come explore this wonderful area and make a difference for its future. This is a great activity for people (and kids) interested in clean water and a clean habitat for the plants and animals that call the river home.
All tools and supplies are provided. Water and light snacks will be available.
Be sure to dress in clothes that can get a little dirty and wear closed shoes, no sandals or flip-flops allowed for safety reasons.
Volunteers will meet at the south end of Fenton Parkway (cul de sac) near the Mission Valley Library (west of IKEA).
