Please tell us something about yourself and your interest in Humanism.

I prefer being part of small temporary groups of people with common purpose rather than being part of a comforting definitive culture. Generally I don't like the idea of culture. To bend a phrase: I feel that humanism is a culture the way “off” is a TV channel. It’s not really a counter-culture but rather the lack of culture. For me, it feels more like attending a drum circle while spinning poi in a rainbow dash costume without someone implying I should feel shame than it does like making a list of religious things to reject and categorically hating them.

How did you find us? Print materials, online, word-of-mouth, or...?

I think I first found you at a Richard Dawkins lecture last year, I also know a guy Pedro from another meetup and I met you in Balboa Park a week or 2 ago.

I want to be among people interested in knowledge who don’t really care what I believe or how I live my life as long as I'm rational. I'm a Unitarian Universalist: a religion based only on intelligent human ideas where nothing is divine inspiration.
