This open letter written by former president of the United States, Jimmy Carter, was apparently written in January of this year, but is now making the rounds on Twitter. Worth a read:

Thanks for this great message from President Carter, Angel. I've always liked President Carter and consider him to be a great humanist. He is the best ex-president I can remember in terms of what he has done for humanity after his term as president ended.

In regards to this piece, I would ask President Carter, "What took you so long?" The inescapable conclusion of anyone who studies the history of religion is that virtually all religions subjugate and oppress women. One of the main purposes of religion is to CONTROL women and make them behave the way men want them to behave. That's no surprise since the rules and traditions of religions for the most part were created by men.

Here's a good web page on the inferior status of women according to the Bible.

FWIW, President Carter wrote that letter in 2009. Thanks for posting it.

Huh! So he did! It appears that this is the original posting:

Kind of odd that he chose to write this piece for an Australian news organization. I wonder why it's making the rounds of the Twittersphere now?
