A Humanist Approach to Happiness -- New Course Offered Eight Sundays @HGP

A Humanist Approach to Happiness: this is the first of a series of eight classes, taught by HGP member Dave Collamer.

Description: We look at happiness as achieving our goals with "a deep sense of well-being." In doing that, we'll look at the importance of ethics, responsibility, and compassion in the lives of humanists.

Specific topics will include: being yourself, taking care of yourself, taking control of your life, having better relationships and a better sex life (regardless of age), using reason in achieving goals, dealing with dysfunctional people, and looking at the role of compassion in making the world a better place.

We follow the topics in Jennifer Hancock's book of the same title and we encourage discussion at each meeting. A used copy of the book will be made available on October 13 for $5. Those wishing to purchase a new copy can find one on Amazon for about $11.

Although we will be discussing concepts from Jenn's book based on the attendees' experiences, this class is not a philosophy discussion.

The dates are Oct 13, 20, 27 Nov 10, 17, 24 Dec 8, 15 from 11:45 am to 12:50 pm in the Keeston Room.

Is there a cost for this course?

The only cost is for the book we will all be using. If you rsvp in time, Dave Collamer will order a used one for $5. Otherwise, you will have to purchase from another source. The 8-week series is free. And, perhaps you might wish to come to Friendly House at 10 a.m. and hear the Sunday morning program presentation. There will be a short break between the program and the Happiness discussion with a few snacks available and an opportunity to talk with the presenter (what we Humanists call AfterThoughts). We hope you will join us. Donna
