Hello, Portland Area Humanism Meetup (PAHM) members,
Two items of note!
ITEM 1: Changes in the way some events are announced/described
If you haven't already noticed, you will soon notice some differences to the PAHM calendar and event announcements. Specifically, as a result of feedback from both PAHM members (and ex-members) and HGP members, Sunday morning events at Friendly House (which were until now described on the PAHM calendar) will now be described ONLY on the HGP (Humanists of Greater Portland) calendar. That calendar can be found at a link near the bottom of http://www.portlandhumanists.org/
A note mentioning all such Sunday events will remain on the PAHM calendar, and will point to the HGP calendar for more info.
The events themselves-- e.g. Children's Program and discussion groups -- WILL CONTINUE UNCHANGED, and you are still welcome to attend and participate as always. The only difference is that there will be no need to RSVP, and you will not receive notices as part of PAHM (since these events occur weekly, and are and have long been HGP events).
So, again -- nothing has changed regarding the way these events are held or who is invited to attend them. This change is primarily to reduce clutter on the calendar and in your mailbox regarding events that occur every week at Friendly House. This will allow the Meetup to focus on events at other times and/or places, as was always its intention.
ITEM 2: Northwest Freethought Alliance Conference coming up - SIGN UP BY MARCH 14!
The 2010 Northwest Freethought Alliance (NFA) Conference will be held on March 26, 27, and 28th at Renton Technical College in Renton, WA. This is the follow-on to the conference held in Portland last year, to high acclaim. More information, plus online registration, can be found at http://nwfreethought.org/
The conference organizer is specifically asking that people sign up SOON to ensure guaranteed reservation of appropriate facilities, and (if at all possible), NO LATER THAN SUNDAY, MARCH 14. It may not even be possible to sign up after this date, if enough reservations have not been made to reserve those facilities.
This would seem like a very appropriate meetup for PAHM. If a member can serve as the organizer for this event, please let me know, and I'll schedule it!
Thanks, and please continue to provide feedback. Hopefully, with the new changes in the calendar, we'll be able to focus more on new events around the area and at different times.
