HVH's BIGGEST DAY - The 1,000,000th MILE HIKE! Walkway Over the Hudson!

Hudson Valley Hikers Presents

The 1,000,000th MILE HIKE!

Walkway Over the Hudson

3.6 mile loop across

The world's tallest pedestrian bridge

Come celebrate with us!!

9:30am- Saturday, May 18th -

This is a GREAT day to get out and meet some of the other members and Organizers.

Starting at the Poughkeepsie Train Station (FREE PARKING) and making a 3.6 mile loop across 2 bridges and though scenic sections of the Hamlet of Highland and City of Poughkeepsie.

Over the past 5 years HVH has trekked in almost a dozen countries, across some of the most dramatic landscape in the world. Not only climbing the tallest peaks in the US including Denali, Whitney, Rainier, Hood, Shasta, and many more but also taking you to the top of some of the worlds tallest peaks like Aconcagua, Kilimanjaro, Peru, and Elbrus. From caving in Puerto Rico, to Kayaking the historic lakes and rivers of the Northeast.

With an average of over 12 events per week HVH is the most active group in the country with the most active members, now well over 6,000 strong. On MAY 18, 2013 HVH would have hiked a combined total of over ONE MILLION MILES- that is like hiking to the moon and back 4 times!!!

Although HVH has trekked the world, we also enjoy coming home to where it all started....

I hope you can join us for a gentle, family friendly 3.6 mile hike across the Walkway-Over-The-Hudson to celebrate this great milestone. Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy it on the new parks along the banks of the Hudson River.

The Poughkeepsie Train station has FREE parking, MTA service available from NYC.

--------------------

Crossing WalkWay over the Hudson state historic park and the Mid-hudson Bridge, this 3.6-Mile loop offers thrilling river views and connects riverside parks, cultural attractions and historic points of interest on the Poughkeepsie and Highland Waterfronts. additional links provide easy access to 2.5 Miles of nature trails in franny reese state park as Well as Miles of rail trails in Ulster and Dutchess counties.

I hope you can join us on this special day!

Looks like the closest Amtrak train timewise arrives at 9:43AM. too late? only other option gets in around 8:40AM.

Happy to chip in for gas/coffee for a driver coming up from NYC (I'm in BK).

Chris mentions MTA in the description - there's a metro north train arriving at 9:37. Takes a little longer than Amtrak and have to leave a little earlier, but it is a lot cheaper.

Are you sure that the Mid-Hudson bridge is safe for pedestrians? The Walkway over the Hudson is obviously safe, but I don't remember seeing pedestrians on the Mid-Hudson bridge.

    March 16, 2013

    • Jeff

The loop trail runs over both bridges... Yes it is absolutely safe

      1 · March 16, 2013

    • Chris B.

It is a Scenic Hudson marked trail. All is good
