WARNING REGARDING BUSHWHACKS: "Bushwhacks" are hikes that go off of maintained trails and through pure wilderness.  Please make sure you are very confident in your ability to navigate through the woods without trails since it is very easy to get lost in these forests, especially in the summer.  Map & Compass REQUIRED. GPS is also recommended, but it is not a substitute for a map & compass and the skills to use them effectively.

Getting there: Meet at the beginning of Spruceton Rd at 5:20

The coldest Catskill hike to date, bushwhacking through 2ft of unbroken snow, butt sliding into a log shin first, going under 1mph at times....even sacrificing car keys and a water bottle to the Goddess of the Mountain didn't help.

Overall an EPIC hike, I think those that went on it will remember this one for a while...

A great, challenging hike. That snow was crazy! I think I managed to redeem my Jan 1 performance. Many, many thanks to Kevin for saving the night. And I've decided that I'll drive for the carpools from now on.

[masked]" of fresh snow from reports I've seen...hoping this was broken out prior!

Also, it wouldn't be a Tuesday Night Hike without really cold weather! Look for summit temps from 0-10F, possibly dipping below zero if the hike takes us longer than expected. Very little wind though!

Is there anyone driving from NYC (or close)? I live in NJ but can meet you in the city. Happy to chip in for transportation costs!

Sounds like a fun one.....I know bushwhacks are a great equalizer but w/o a GPS ..... I only have map and compass.....is an effort made to keep the group together? I'm not a speed hiker uphills and need to get 10 to 20 sec breaks every once in awhile...Confident I'd find my way out ok but would need to prepare a little better with alternate maps to ease my exit.
