This is one of the great HVH events of the year

CAMPING WEEKEND IN THE WHITES! Hike SIX of the Presidential Range: Mt. Madison, Mt. Adams, Mt. Jefferson (DAY ONE), Mt. Eisenhower, Mt. Monroe, Mt. Washington (DAY TWO).
(With options to hike- Franconia Ridge- Full traverse- )

We will camp Friday - Monday / May 27-30
Cost for the whole weekend is $20pp

Meet up times: (Friday 5/28)

8pm- Dolly Copp Campground

Last year's trip pictures: http://www.meetup.com...

I am booked 2 large group sites! We can have 60 people!

We will be hiking Sat. and Sun.
NOTE: You do not need to hike to join in on the camping fun!

There are many hiking options, local short hike with wonderful views and waterfalls if you don't want to climb the big ones :)

Whatever your experience and memories walking among the Adirondacks, Catskills, Green Mountains, the Berkshires and others ... I dare you to find mountains more glorious and more dramatic that New Hampshire's White Mountains, where my greatest hiking memories remain with me still.

Sorry, but you can't call yourself a mountain climber if you've not walked up to these magnificent peaks! Please mark your calendar and plan to join our group to what I daresay will be for you the most wonderful hiking experience of your life! Plan ahead -- get yourself in shape! -- and prepare to climb the highest -- six of the GREATEST -- of the highest peaks of the Great Northeast!

    Dear Mr. Pallbearer,
Well, serves you right for not going with HVH. Those who trekked the Presi Traverse came back alive, well, & barely-standing but we all give them kudos for such feat. Some of us saw MOOSE!!!! right across from Pinkham's Notch Visitor Center. Of course, some drama (how do you spell "DC"?)but no "cat fight". All-n-all, a terrific way to spend Memorial Day weekend! One-of-many-Julies/Julia ; )

3 years in a row! Great weekend, gnarly thunder storms, a bunch of people completed the full traverse. A couple 1st time hikers managed to get to the summit of Washington! Black bear fox, and moose sightings. Francisco kept his shirt ON much to the crowds dismay. See you all in 2012...

Guys, those interested in doing the five hour hike on Saturday morning, get in touch with me so that I can look for you on Saturday morning via email. We would start around 8 to 9pm and finish around 1 to 2pm. Otherwise I should be at the campsite around 11 to 12 tomorrow night. I will be holding a beer and probably hanging out by the fire if anyone starts one tomorrow night.

ok..seems like i can make it - anyone having room in their car and travelling from around the Park Slope, Brooklyn area - or I can make it someplace. Also, if someone can let me know the brings for this, its the first time I'm doing this. Am thinking bring food, drinks, sheets and chip in for travel.

I have a sleeping bag. Might need to share a tent.

Guys, joking aside, please don't leave any food outside or inside your tent at night. There are lots of bears around Dolly Copp that will be more than happy to scratch your tent and maybe you for a piece of a Kit Kat bar. All food, alcohol, anything with a scent or trash should be packed away in the trunk of the cars at night. The last time I was at Dolly Copp, we had two bears visiting our campsite looking for food because one of the guys had forgotten some power bars in his backpack. He had le

Chuck, once you are past Connecticut there is usually no traffic whatsoever. My only suggestion is to avoid 95 in CT. Take the to the merritt to 91. Avoid 95 at all costs.

    May 22, 2011

  • Chuck

I'm leaving from Quens on Fri around 4pm. I'm wondering if I will have less holiday traffic woes by taking 91 & approaching the campground from the east, or taking 84 to 93, then cutting through the Whites on 3. Any advice?

Chris - I'm gonna get a new sleeping bag later; I figured I could drive up from Jersey and sleep in my car. Is the parking lot close enough to the campsite for that? Also, what time do the hikes start on Sat?
