Breakneck Ridge *SUNSET HIKE*

***FAST NIGHT HIKE, NOT FOR BEGINNERS***

We leave exactly at the start time so please try to come a few minutes early.  Text me or post a comment if you are going to be late.  If you fall behind during the hike, you must be prepared to finish on your own.  Make sure you have a copy of the map, a headlamp, and 1 liter of water, minimum.

Going up the white trail (BR), then left on red (BB) and left on yellow (WM).  Some of us may scale the face (level 4 scramble off-trail to the right of the white trail) but we will meet at the flagpole.

Total distance is 3.5 miles approx. and we expect to finish in around 2 hours.  The elevation gain is almost 1400' so be prepared to climb, especially in the steep beginning.

If we are feeling up to it, we may bushwhack to Sugarloaf for the sunset, which would add another 1/2 mile and a few hundred feet of elevation gain.

Bring a copy of the map, a headlamp, snack, your favorite beverage (glass containers not recommended).

Whistling Willie's for brews and grub after the hike.  Unlike these guys, you'll be smiling at Willie's:  http://goo.gl/dBIPhN

It was nice to sit and watch the sunset with you all. Thank you for the shot glasses. I got to try a little bit of everything Down hill was very relaxing :)

What a gorgeous sunset, to be shared with some of my favorite HVHers. So nice to meet new people, too! And I am so proud of my son Sam, a non-hiker, for keeping up with HVH. Thanks to those who kept him company; Pete and I, after a bathroom break, lost the group, weren't sure if everyone else bushwhacked to Sugarloaf, wasted time trying to decide what to do, and got to the car quite a bit after Sam. He said he loved the hike.

Does anyone know what the flashing lights by the parking lot next to the tunnel were about?

Clearly he should have been out one of my beginner hikes instead. I wonder how much this rescue cost us taxpayers.

Thanks, Rita! Amit, I think he should have started earlier with us instead and he would have had "a good time". ;-)

A hike like last night's makes it almost impossible to do anything else with my free time:-). Breakneck is always awesome, sunsets & the skies exceptional (rain or shine), post hike grub yummy, but the company...I think our group last night, collectively and individually, is what made it unlike any other Breakneck sunset hike. Just simply a perfect blend of new faces and friends! Thanks everyone for a beautiful evening!

First timer here for the meetup AND breakneck...very excited! I was slightly confused by the address for parking vs where the hike begins. The BR trail looks much farther north of the parking lot just above cold spring where the address on 9D is. I just want to make sure I start at the right location to meet everyone. Thank you!

    July 15, 2014

    • Megumi

This link I copied from above is accurate.
      https://maps.google.co...
We start on the BR trail and end on the yellow trail, and the parking lot is in-between. It's a pretty big parking lot.

    • Nora D

I was looking at the address and not the map...now I get it! Thank you! :)
