My client in midtown prides itself on delivering critical information to leading decision makers as well as being one of the world’s most trusted news organizations. 

Currently, they are seeking an innovative and passionate Full time/ Permanent Interaction Designer to join their growing Online Communications team. As an advocate for end users worldwide, the Interaction Designer is a key player in creating intuitive experiences for diverse internal and external user communities. This includes hands-on conceptualization and refinement of wireframes, sitemaps, user flows, and personas, as well as gathering requirements from end users and stakeholders. The Interaction Designer is a collaborative team-player that brings strong design skills and an up-to-date understanding of Web technologies, trends and interface concepts to my clients interdisciplinary team.

The ideal candidate will be someone who thrives in a fast paced environment, works well both individually and as part of a team, is highly results-driven with excellent interactive UI design skills and demonstrable experience in most activities around the design lifecycle, from discovery to final testing.


Primary responsibilities:

  • Understand end-user needs, as well as business and technical requirements and translate them into intuitive interface solutions
  • Create storyboards, personas, flow charts, sketches, detailed and comprehensive wireframes and other documents that effectively communicate the information design and interaction design
  • Recommend design and implementation ideas from a user-centered perspective
  • Set up and lead, participate in user research/usability testing
  • Collaborate with business analysts, developers, project managers, and external agencies
  • Participate in formal and informal design critiques

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in visual design, interaction design, or a design-related field
  • 2-5 years of experience designing web-based interfaces
  • A blended background of in-house and agency experience a plus
  • UX design experience and related disciplines: All aspects of the discovery phase: interviewing users, observing users, task analysis, documenting requirements
  • Solid understanding of the fundamentals of user interface design; experience in user-centered design methods
  • Passionate, motivated, curious
  • Prototyping experience: wireframes, storyboards, flow charts, and clickable prototypes
  • Knowledge of best practices of major websites and UI design in RIA environments
  • Understanding of the capabilities and limitations of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, AJAX, Flash
  • Solid proficiency with InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Comfortable defending concepts and negotiating successful compromises between multiple project stakeholders
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects simultaneously and under tight deadlines

·         Creative thinker, excited by new challenges

·         Happy to pitch in where needed: from building a one-off graphic to redesigning our product navigation to writing a specification document to QA-ing a set of new functionality

·         Passionate about their work, yet takes feedback gracefully (willing to iterate and improve)

·         Process/methodology driven, but flexible to apply methods where/when needed

·         Plays well with others!
