Panelists

Chris Chandler, Senior Director of UX, Fandango

Chris is currently the Senior Director of UX for Fandango, the leading online destination for movie tickets. Previously he lead the online design team for the Magic+ initiative at Walt Disney World in Orlando. His teams are cross-functional, geographically diverse and committed to high quality multi-platform delivery. Chris has taught, co-taught and lectured on UX topics for over a decade, and has established UX internship programs at Disney and Fandango.  He is a proponent of lean/agile approaches to the design process, as well as the problems of prioritizing work between parallel independent teams. He hopes there is a golden age of ubiquitous computing before the technological singularity makes UX, along with most other human disciplines, obsolete.

Hannah Galloway, Manager, User Experience at Capital Group

Hannah studied black and white Photography in college, and honed her leadership skills working as a mountaineering instructor for Outward Bound. Recognizing creative opportunities borne out of Internet technologies, Hannah has built her second career running user experience teams across diverse lines of business: interactive agencies, enterprise software and, most recently, in financial services.

Chris Morabito, Group Director, Experience Design at BLITZ Adjunct Faculty, MDP at Art Center College of Design

Skot Carruth, UX Design Instructor at General Assemb.ly and Managing Member at philosophie

Skot started his first e-commerce company in 1997 and has helped launch over 200 websites and applications since. By day, Skot serves as a Managing Partner at philosophie, a design and development consultancy that helps companies create things that matter. By night, he is a UX vigilante, doing what he can to further design and tech education through organizations such as General Assembly. Before settling into the field of User Experience, Skot worked as a visual designer, developer, and investment banker (briefly).

Moderator

Angel Anderson - VP / Experience Director at Crispin Porter + Bogusky, Los Angeles Area

Angel is the VP Experience Design Director at  CP+B, (pronounced C-P-B, by the way) where she leads the Los Angeles UX team on diverse projects for clients such as Whole Foods, VitaminWater, Applebee's, and The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. As LA's founding local leader for the Interaction Design Association, Angel has organized countless events to help designers gain exposure to emerging tools and techniques including mentor speed-dating to connect new designers with seasoned professionals. Having been a UX job seeker who's now responsible for hiring UX talent at every level from intern to Director she's aware of the challenges on both side of the table and today she'll help our panelists clarify all the best ways to find the perfect career fit.

    Hello all,

We are looking for a simple solution for observing users while they are performing a task on their computers. The solution needs to be super simple and should provide us with screen capture with audio. We need a web based product or a service that will not require an installation on the user side. We will provide the users. Any recommendations are much appreciated.

    Thank you,

    Alper Cakir

Hi Alper, I recommend asking this question on the Message Board under Discussion since this thread is for the event. We could continue the discussion there. :) With that said, Google Hangout's screenshare works pretty well and you can record things on your side using Camtasia (there's a free trial). Skype screenshare is another option (with a paid account - most people already have it installed) and join.me isn't too bad either (although I've had framerate issues before with it). Say hi to Asli for me!

Yes, it's great if you could do a repeat event Chrystal. Thanks for this. As I will be unable to get out of my Thursday night class which won't' end until the end of March. I really would like to be attend another career-related event. I've just undone my RSVP :(

    January 28, 2014

  • Suzanne B.

I won't be able to make it, I have a schedule conflict with being in LA this Thurs. (yes yes, I've changed my rsvp to open space for someone else)
And hey, wouldn't it be super-great if this meetup could have a sequel (or a twin?) scheduled soon, the interest for this topic is off the charts! (Didja notice there are more peeps on waitlist than registered for event..)

How does the wait list work for this event? Thanks!

    January 12, 2014

Hi Dan, here is how the wait list works. When someone who was planning to attend changes their RSVP status to "not attending", then someone from the waiting list automatically gets contacted about the available space.

Can anyone tell me why almost every UX event is held on a Thursday night? I have a night class and can never make it to them.

    November 15, 2013

    • Mario N.

As another meetup organizer I can tell you that it's probably because Monday's are too busy, Tuesday might be alright, Wednesday is hump day and people are tired, Thursday doesn't interfere with the weekend and Friday definitely usually does.
