RE: [ia-55] With iRise on the horizon, anyone got any comments on Axure?

Personally, I really like Axure but it has it's limitations.  We use it for prototyping quite a bit and can do some fairly sophisticated interactions and logic HOWEVER my designers all have some experience with HTML or a tool like Dreamweaver.  I think it's easy to do really simple stuff immediately but once you want to design anything that's more RIA or complex, there's a definite learning curve. Add to that the need to use external tools like Illustrator, Fireworks or Photoshop to really amp up the fidelity.

All in all though, a great tool if you're willing to stick with it.

A distant coworker (another part of the company, does desktop apps) is using Axure and enjoying it.  He did a demo for our web team, and it looked pretty good for putting together basic UI prototypes.  You can't really embed smarts the way you can with iRise, but you can still build in alternate paths.

I have also heard good things from some other IAs in the area who have used Axure.

Axure is very much a tool for you to use to do your thing, whereas iRise (and some of the other biggies) is a tool for the entire team to use together to do lots of things.

Anybody on the list using Axure and want to comment?

Thanks,
