RE: [ia-55] Looking for UX Intern in LA/Santa Monica

I disagree, and only as of recently!  The opportunity to intern at an awesome company might be worth many times what the ‘pay’ may amount to.

Not to mention, when you consider what students pay a university for an educational experience that may well be inferior to that of an internship, working for ‘free’ may well be the bargain of a lifetime.

That being said, we are offering ‘paid’ internships here, because I feel we can work them harder when we pay them  ;-)

Please send all candidates over to be fit for their mancles!!

If there is school credit I think it's at least ethical.  Intern maybe is the wrong word in this case.. apprenticeship?

Specifically, http://connecttohr.com/hiring-unpaid-interns-in-california/ has more information on the topic. And I actually echo Lynn's stance; I think it's unrealistic and unfair to ask an intern (in most any capacity) to work for free.

OK, I feel very strongly that interns for companies who use their work to produce revenues and benefit from those revenues should pay those interns.  They bring something to the table too: experience, enthusiasm, questions; asking them to work for free is taking advantage of them.

Also, I don't think your workers' compensation insurance policy will allow unpaid interns on the premises.  You might check that out.

My 2¢, FWIW.

Stridently yours,

Lynn

Hi,

After working with me for several months, my first UX intern landed a
job as an IA at Digitas. I'm now looking for my second student. The
position is unpaid. However, if you're passionate about UX and want to
work alongside a seasoned professional, I can share with you what I've
learned over the past 15 years designing web sites and applications.
If interested, here's what you need to do:

1) Passion for UX
2) Able to come into office in Santa Monica at least 3 days/week
3) Some experience/Education (Tell me what you've done or better yet,
point me to some work or projects online
4) Tell me why you want to be my UX intern
