Nice, Pramit. That's what I was looking for. And thanks for the mobile insights, Michelangelo.

Not surprisingly it's been an uphill battle to keep the survey short and focused on users' needs rather than "nice-to-have" marketing information.

Any thoughts on whether desktop survey should be a pop-up on pageload vs. a click-through. There are pros and cons to both. I found some research indicating that pop-up on pageload delivers more completion rates (from a survey "expert"), but then I've also read user feedback indicating pop-up surveys are annoying and users who click on a survey to participate are actually interested and therefore more likely to complete/give usable feedback.

This might be a bit device specific, but useful nonetheless. Also, connect with service providers like those mentioned below and they will more than happily give you best practices in the hopes of winning your business. They often have a wealth of data and don't ever feel guilty sussing it out of them either by offering a chance at your business or just appealing to their good side with your good side. Good folks (Mailchimp comes to mind) will publish guides for free (check out their site to see what I mean) to educate the market so everyone can do things better.

According to experts from Foresee Results, Userzoom (both companies offer survey solutions for mobile devices and apps) and other companies, survey designed for tablets:
a) Should not take respondents more than 90 seconds to complete, max 2 minutes; that would be 7-8 questions, max 10 (drop-off increases significantly beyond that)
b) Questions should ideally have 5-6 answer choices; not many
c) Questions and answers should not be wordy
d) Most questions should not be open ended (avoid 'text response'); let users just tap to select an answer

As far as business folks, bring it back to objectives. Kill the infighting and individual agenda-pushing by aligning everyone to the same end objective.
