Unfortunately, one cannot copyright an interface. However, you may be 
able to patent it. You're on the right track, though: a patent requires 
that you "conceive of and reduce to practice" your invention, which 
essentially means that you design it and build a prototype. For this you 
will need the digg API <http://apidoc.dig...;­ and a developer friend, 
but what kind of developer depends on the invention. For a 
general-purpose rich interaction you should probably start with a Flash 
developer so you can prototype as quickly as possible, You may be able 
to share Illustrator and Photoshop files with the FLash guy if you're 
all using recent versions of the tools.

A patent lawyer or a good book on patents (such as Nolo's Patent It 
can help with the patenting details.
