The February meeting is at the Bellevue regional library on Wednesday. The IBD Market Timing System has called the market in correction. The major indexes since logged 4 consecutive down weeks.Time to build your watch list with potential new market leaders for 2010 in anticipation a new confirmed market rally. Several of the indexes hit 10% corrections intraday on Friday, the most down since the March 2009 market bottom.
The agenda for will include the usual stock market index chart review and a quick summary of the market timing system. Also we will cover a chart review of some selections from my current watch list along with your Q & A session.
We hope to help you catch the next market uptrend and find your way into fundamentally strong stocks breaking out of proper bases while acquainting you with the proper risk management techniques.
We have several recent events you can review in preparation for the Q & A section of the agenda:
Follow this link to listen to William O"Neil answer current questions about winning in todays stock market in a recent radio broadcast on TFNN Radio--http://www.investors.com/MediaCenter/default.aspx?mediaID=519904
Also Bill O'Neil made an hour presentation at the Chicago area IBD Meetup last week in which he reviewed charts and the characteristics in detail of 10 stocks from the institutional product list Leaders and Laggards that proved winnerts in 2009. Several of these stocks came right off the bottom but all were big gainers last year. I don't yet have the link for the the webinar but hope to have it for you before our meeting.
Kate Salter made a presentation that was recorded online for the MoneyShow in Orlando on Friday. It also focused on using CANSLIM and IBD research to pick winning stocks. I expect to have link for that broadcast for you soon too.
Please don't forget to access the files at our website---www.ibd.meetup.com/2/ for articles on building your watch list during a correction if you need a refresher. In addition, Friday's edition of IBD had an excellent article on building a watch list along with some related outstanding stocks with which to to familiarize yourself on page B1 in the Investors Corner feature.
You can find more details about the usual format for the our groups meetings below. You now have the agenda and some homework. I expect thorough preparation for the Q & A section of the meeting.
What we usually do in our meetings-
The meeting is scheduled to start at 6:45 pm but I usually have the doors open by 6:00pm. You are welcome to come early to socialize or network with others in the group. We need help setting up tables and chairs before the meeting and tearing them down and stowing them at the end of the meeting. Your help is appreciated.
The meeting usually begins with introductions and a listing of questions or topics members of the group want covered at the meeting. I will present a stock market review. I will be prepared to discuss my recent and current stock picks. I am inviting other members who use the CANSLIM research methodology to help too.
You are invited to share your CANSLIM stock picks or ideas from your holdings or watch list for analysis at the meeting as well. We usually have a special presentation on some basic and advanced IBD portfolio management techniques. I always try to leave you with one or more stocks that I think may turn out to be a good investment in the next few days.
Some of you will want to participate in the discussion, and we encourage it ,but you may also just listen. I f you would like to send me questions or topics you wish covered at the meeting in advance please send them to me by e-mail.
Anyone interested in sharpening their investing knowledge and skill should attend. Newcomers are always welcome. I suggest you look at some of the basic educational materials free at www.investors.com or jump into William O'Neils books ,How to Make Money In Stocks and the The Successful Investor, in order to avoid being lost at the beginning of the meeting. As time goes on,you will learn advanced stock picking, trading and portfolio management techniques. You will also meet others who are trying to be their own portfolio manager or independent trader.
We request a donation of $7 per person to defray expenses for meeting equipment not supplied by the library and our research tools.
