This course is now full, but we'll post another date soon.
(Unless there are 3-4 people who are interested in doing a course on the Sunday)
Seconding Outdoors - Including Abseiling
Please add yourself to the waiting list if you are interested and we will make arrangements with you directly to pay for the course to confirm your place.
This is a one day course based in the Peak District.
A maximum of 4 people on each course date
However a minimum of 3 are required to run the course.
Costs are £50 per person which doesn't include transport to the venue, accommodation (should you choose to stay over night) or packed lunches.
You must be able to arrange a lift with another attendee or be able to get yourself to the area by public transport.
A little info for the day’s instruction you have booked. Firstly this is your course, so if there are particular things you would like to do, then please let me know. If not I am sure we can work out any requests on the day.
Timetable: 9:00 to 17:00 this will include breaks to review during the day and a longer stop for lunch, but we will stay at the crag so bring a packed lunch.
Syllabus: the course is the chance to see for yourself how outdoor climbing works, the day will be flexible to your abilities and knowledge, but will cover the following core areas.
• Introduction to trad gear, carrying and care for it.
• Making sense of climbing grades and guidebooks.
• A short movement session to help you get used to the lack of footholds and abundance of friction.
• Climbing calls and communication.
• The placing and removal of trad protection.
• Abseiling with a backup.
• How belay anchor systems are built.
By the end of the course you'll be a competent second with an understanding of anchor selection and belay techniques, and knowledge of what makes the outside world so different.
Experience: To make the most of your time on the crag, you should be a competent belayer. For those wishing to partake in this course, but lack the necessary experience, the Indoor Beginners Course is an ideal preliminary and covers all the relevant skills and techniques.
Equipment: You will be expected to have your own harness and belay device, helmets I can lend for the day, but you will need one for climbing outdoors generally so it is well worth the investment. Cheaper helmets come from around £40.
