After the success of last years freezing trip to the Roaches, we thought we'd do it all over again! So we're going TRAD climbing in February, in the Roaches. Huzzah!

Just to clarify, we will be trad climbing, because its GRIT and its going to be really sticky because its going to be COLD, REALLY COLD. Even if your nuts are frozen we will be ON IT.

Really warm clothes, lots of base layers, gloves, hat and some funky knitwear

Trad climbing stuff - a rack (or organise to share with someone)

Sleeping bags / towels

Hot water bottle

The Roaches Bunkhouse - in Upper Hulme, 50 yrds from the pub and at the base of the rocks. http://www.roachesbunkhouse.com/

Easy - its £10pp/pn so that's a total of £20 per person for Fri/Sat.

I may organise a food kitty nearer the time dependent on opinion/numbers

Transport costs to be organised separately with your driver

Please add yourself to the waiting list to express an interest, I need to get an idea of numbers so I can confirm accommodation. You will be moved to 'going' once your deposit is received.

A deposit of £5 to be paid into the ICAS account by January 18th with the reference [NAME]GRITISTHENUTS

Full payment required by 8th February into the ICAS account.

This trip is for ICAS members only - with a priority given to full members with trad experience who have climbed with us before.

Please note that current ICAS memberships expire on 31st Dec 2012 so you will need to renew your membership (please refer to Lisa's email) to ensure a place on this trip.

The final attendee list is at the organiser's discretion.

    • Karl G.

Me too Ben - I'm almost tempted to spend the whole weekend running laps on it with anyone who's interested to pay penance for not doing it last time.

I think I was bullied into this in a weak moment, I've done Bachelor's buttress before and seemed to recall at the time saying I'd never do it again, amidst the swearing...!!!

Climbing plans so far: Jenny, Caroline and Lisa to man up and tackle Bachelor's Buttress (no excuses). Jenny, Caroline and Christina to have afternoon tea on the party ledge on Inverted Staircase.

We (Dave B's car) are now bringing Lisa back so we have two spaces going up and one coming back. Leaving 5-6pm from New Cross/Greenwich. Luggage can be dropped off Thursday evening @ the Reach if it helps. Passengers may hold the Uber Cam if they are very lucky!

Nigel - unfortunately can't get hold of a bouldering mat from the bunkhouse or my local friend. Looks like you're going to have to pop one in a car... sorry about that!

Dave B or Ben as your both close-ish can I have a lift home with one of you please.
I have a lift up there arranged but then I'm abandoned and need a ride home???
    Thanks xx

  • Christina D.

I wouldn't mind a lift, meself...Can travel wherever to be picked up. I don't know how work will turn out, so I'd prefer an evening-ish pick up. In dire need (i.e. no one leaving after 5-ish) I could try to arrange something with work. Many thanks!

    • Steven T.

I would rather leave a but earlier. Do you want to discuss on Thursday if you are at the reach?

      February 13, 2013

  • Steven T.

So who would like a lift. I am off friday so can go at anytime. Can also pick up from The Reach and surrounding areas?

BTW: I am willing to loan my sloth onsie to anyone who wants to attempt the Sloth on the trip.

Accommodation now booked and confirmed. Trip is now closed to any more attendees. Organising emails etc will happen in Feb. In the meantime any questions, just ask.

As mentioned at the club meeting, If everyone could confirm their attendance by paying the deposit and emailing me by next week that would be super. I need to confirm absolute numbers with the bunkhouse.
Also - please ensure you speak to other people on the trip about climbing buddies (especially if you are a trad novice). You need to make sure you have a plan for the weekend.
I'll sort out the whole car/transport thing in a couple of weeks time.

Just to let everyone know I have now paid the deposit for the bunkhouse. Please can you you let me know if you've paid and if you could confirm attendance at next week's club meeting with deposit/full amount paid shortly after that would be great.
ALSO - please ensure your ICAS subs are paid in full.
BTW: Excitingly, they are currently installing a traverse wall inside the bunkhouse :-D

Just to let you all know I've emailed the bunkhouse to let them know that we require 14beds. If you could all ensure you pay your ICAS subs and the deposit by Jan 18th that would be great.
