ICAS Climbing Club: International sport climbing trip (France)

ICAS Climbing Club: International sport climbing trip (France)

Join the waiting list to express an interest in this trip.

SPORT Climbing Week in the South of France.  There are trad routes but this is predominantly a sport climbing trip.

Côte d’Azur, France - accommodation is a traditional gîte which sleeps 16 people.  The Gîte is approximately 30km east of Toulon on the south coast of France and is around 200m (that's a little 'm' for metres!!) from two beaches.  The Gîte is pretty much equidistant from Marseille and Nice airports so take your pick!

Saturday 12th October - Saturday 19th October (please note the date given in the ICAS calendar has changed!)

Due to the length and nature of this trip it is initially open to full-members only.  If places still need to be filed nearer the time then the trip will be open to all ICAS members.

"The South of France is home to the best sport climbing in the world - period!" Adrian Berry.

As well as the usual basic climbing equipment (harness, shoes, chalk-bag, belay device, etc.) you should bring (or arrange to share) a set of quickdraws and a rope.

This trip was announced at the March club meeting.  Assuming you're on the waiting list and you're a full member of ICAS then all you need to do is pay a deposit for your accommodation of £50 to the ICAS Climbing Club bank account.  Send me a message when you make the transfer and when I get confirmation that your payment has gone through I will move you to the confirmed "attending" list.

The balance of the money required for the accommodation will be payable around August (to be confirmed).

"France : Côte d’Azur" by Rockfax

Accommodation - to be confirmed once we have final numbers but should be no more than 100Euros.

Flights - you are responsible for booking your own flights

Car Hire - we will probably be hiring 4 cars (based on 16 people), details to be confirmed.  Tolls and petrol costs will be split between the group as on previous international trips.

Food/Drink - on the two previous international trips we have had a system of group evening meals.  Everyone contributes to a 'kitty' and teams of 2/3 people volunteer to cook for the whole group each night.  This has worked extremely well in the past and works out to be very cost-effective.  You are responsible for all your other food/drink needs.

Climbing is an inherently dangerous activity, which could cause personal injury or death. Attendees at any Indoor Climbing and Social events should be aware of and accept the risks and be responsible for their own actions and involvement.

Outdoor trips are open only to paid-up members of the ICAS Climbing Club (£30 per year plus £5 joining fee). Speak to our membership secretary Lisa Payne for more information on joining.

I happen to be going to Antibes for the weekend Friday-Monday the week of your arrival. Where are you guys staying? Would be great to meet for a beer if you are close by!

Between now & France I'm probably going to arrange a Saturday excursion to Covent Garden, to check gear & travel book shops for any final puchases etc - if anybody interested?

How are people getting to Gatwick, is anyone driving or want to go in on parking. Should be quite cheap if we book early?

Anyone willing to be a driver please let me know (we will need at least 8 drivers - 2 per car).

I've booked Caroline's flights too :-) but what I don't understand is why we're not leaving at silly o'clock am? That was so much fun last time!

Please note - this trip is currently for FULL members of ICAS only! If the trip doesn't fill up in a reasonable time then it will definitely be opened up to provisional members.

Everyone else - please DO NOT book flights until I have confirmed your payment and moved you to the GOING list - I'm getting messages from a lot of people and there is a chance you could be left with flights but no bed!!

I'm old! Please don't stress me out any more or I could drop down dead!

For those in any doubt all members join as PROVISONAL. You will be receiving an email from ICAS to reiterate the club rules of which you have all had a copy. You must have attended 3 outdoor trips, have 2 full member sponsers and be approved as a responsible, competate, self sufficient and safe climber to become a FULL member as outlined in the BMC Club guidelines.
