This Meetup group was formed by members of the Bay Area Chapter of the Independent Computer Consultants Association (ICCA). This week we?ve been informed by the National Office of the ICCA in St. Louis that the ICCA is ceasing operations after 30 years of continuous service to members. This is very sad news and it means that our group is no longer officially a chapter of the ICCA.
Our local Chapter group has been very active in the last few years, and in fact I would say that we are on the upswing; we have no intention of allowing this setback from stopping our activities as a group. However there will be some changes needed due to our change in legal status. This is an opportunity to expand and change our focus now that we are on our own and no longer have to consider the requirements of the National organization.
At our next regularly scheduled meeting on January 14th, we are planning a workshop to brainstorm and develop ideas for moving ahead as an independent organization. We?ve decided to change the venue to a more business like setting so that it will be easier to get everyone?s participation and input. We will be providing pizza and refreshments, but there will be no sit-down dinner. Also there is no charge for attending.
Despite the sadness I feel for the fate of the ICCA, I think this is an exciting opportunity to make some changes and I hope you will come to the next meeting to participate.
