Let's discuss A Farewell to Arms by Ernest Hemingway

It may be a little cold tomorrow morning for us to be outside.  I'm debating between Panera (if we have a big group and have to be inside, it's tough) and Laurel Park Place.  Let me know your thoughts....  I'd like to make the final decision and post by the end of today.

I'm sorry I couldn't make the meeting today. I did not like the book. I don't like the style of writing , the subject or the characters. I honestly don't understand why this book is a classic. Maybe I should try another Ernest Hemingway book. I read this was his first book.

I thought the book was over rated and the dialogue difficult to believe. And its portrayal of women was atrocious.

As predicted, it is still a bit too cold to be outside. We'll be inside at Panera today. See you there :-)

Alittle too cold to be outside today....had to be outside on Friday and had quite a chill then. See you next time when it is warmer.

We will stay at Panera on Schoolcraft (about 1/2 way btwn. Middlebelt & Inkster Rd.) for tomorrow. I know that the Panera on Warren Rd. in front of Westland mall is a lot less crowded and has a much sunnier patio at that time, but it's too late to switch. I just wish it was warm enough to be outside already!

Ugh! Bad timing! Thanks, Karen. Ok, we will have to try Panera. Dress warmly in case we want to try moving outside.

Brooke, I think Book Stock starts tomorrow at Laurel Park.

A combination of reading it and listening to it in the car helped me finish in time.

I'm not even half way through the book... Way too much going on the past month. See everyone next month.

Granted, it is still a week away, but the weather for next Sunday is showing high of 60 (coming off a Saturday low of 40) with "a couple of showers." I will continue to monitor the forecast and will make the final announcement of our location a bit later this week.

Sorry to hear of the passing of Gabriel Garcia Marquez. I have only read his " Love in the Time of Cholera ". Great book and an inspiring ending.

Since we were discussing the possibility of changing our summer home to the park, I cruised Hines Dr. One option is the picnic area on Hines just west of Newburgh next door to there sheriff's department and the stables for the department's horses. There is a small pavilion that's too small to be rented for most types of parties as well as several picnic tables near each other. It should be easy to find and feel secure for new members. I'm fine with Panera and the construction won't impact me, but I wanted to pass along the park location just in case.

LOL! I also cruised Hines Dr. home, but went east onto it from Newburgh. Unfortunately, I was forced off by Nankin Mills, so I didn't get to scope out much of anything :-( The small pavilion Meghan mentions sounds good. I will check it out and let everyone know final decisions for meeting as we draw closer to the end of April. Keep the ideas coming :-)

"A Separate Peace" didn't make the list this time... (there are only 12 slots!)... but "Lord of the Flies" is one of the choices! Make sure you cast your vote for it in the poll (found under the MORE tab). I'll make sure "A Separate Peace" gets added to the master list if it's not already :-)
