Meet to discuss The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey

The results are in: The Snow Child beat out The Christmas Train by one vote! If you are like me and borrow from the library, you'll want to grab your copy of (or place a hold for) this one right away! I started reading The Christmas Train the other day, since it WAS at my library. There are lots of copies of this book available in the system. My thought is that if we aren't able to read The Snow Child due to low availability, we can always read The Christmas Train as our back up plan. It's a very quick, light-hearted read.

This meetup has been rescheduled for Dec. 30 to allow us enough time to acquire and read our books. If another date would work better for you, please post your suggestion here.

Brooke - the downtown Farmington library doesn't open until 1PM on Sundays. Do you still want me to ck on a room for the group?

Livonia library would be easier for me because I tutor on Sundays. They open at 1pm as well. If people like meeting at 1pm, I'm down with that. I can move tutoring to before book club. I will get a poll going for meeting time preference.

one of our best discussions. the question of the snow child's reality reminded me, after the meeting, of the quantum physics "fable" of schrodinger's cat. the cat in the box was both alive and dead--until someone looked in the box. the snow child was real or magical--or both-- depending on how the reader viewed her.

Very good discussion about a well chosen read for this snowy time of year....now off to obtain The Christmas Train to read that as well. Looking forward to the next book discussion. Thanks to-the hostess. Francis

I'll bring discussion questions for The Christmas Train for anyone who wants to stick around and discuss after The Snow Child. We always meet/discuss for at least an hour, so maybe 12:00/12:15 for the 1/2 way point....

For those of you waiting for a copy of The Snow Child, why not pick up The Christmas Train while you wait??? We can discuss both books at our meetup on Dec. 30th.

I've had mine for just over a week and I'm finding it a very quick read. I should be finished with it this weekend and I'll return it to the library, hopefully someone on the waiting list will be able to get it then.
