Hi! My name is Colin Ake - I'm the main IgniteATL instigator and I promise not to email you often - seriously!
I'm busy corralling speakers. We have almost half the slots filled but I need YOUR help to make this interesting. Take a moment and email 2-3 friends you think would be interested in this sort of thing - I've attached an introductory email to the bottom of this. Also, please respond to this email and let me know if you know an engaging individual who is passionate about something! If YOU want to speak, do the same thing. Let's talk!
We have some costs associated with our venue (which is a GREAT location!), refreshments, signage, and meetup.com costs. We need sponsors! If you own or know of a company or organization that would be interested in reaching 200+ passionate Atlantans, please call or email me and let me know. Nobody's making money (or at this point, breaking even) on Ignite, and I want to be able to do this again!
If you haven't registered yet, you'd best get on it! We're about to start a PR wave that should bring in a lot more members to the meetup group - and I don't want you to miss out. We have to cap the event at 225 people.
We'll need a handful of people to help out the night of the event - a couple of people for registration, a couple of people to make sure the cooler is full of Coke, Diet Coke, and water, etc. Let me know if you want to jump in and help out.
If you want to contact me, do it! Call me, email me, twitter me, facebook me. I don't care. Let's talk.
With that, I'm signing off. Looking forward to September 3rd!
INTRODUCTORY EMAIL (send this to 2-3 friends, please? :) )
If you had five minutes on stage to talk about a topic you are passionate about, what would you say? What if you only got 20 slides and they rotated automatically after 15 seconds? Ignite captures the best of geek culture in a series of five-minute speed presentations on topics ranging from The Best Way to Buy a Car to Hacking Chocolate.
Ignite was started in Seattle in 2006 by Brady Forrest and Bre Pettis. Since then 100s of 5-minute talks have been given across the world. Ignite communities thrive in Seattle, Portland, Paris, and NYC. It is a worldwide movement, and Atlanta is hosting our inaugural event on September 3, 2009!
IgniteATL is designed to bring together interesting people from a variety of backgrounds. Passionate people will give 5 minute talks on topics including (but not limited to) technology, education and science.
Expand your horizons, meet passionate people, and learn more in the process! We want people from different communities to join us as we kick off our first Ignite event. Come join us as we span the gaps between communities and IgniteATL! Register now for this free event http://www.meetup.com/igniteatl/?gj=ej5&a=tc1_lm1
