  • This location is shown only to members

Join us for a hunt for wild mushrooms! Newbies welcome, you can learn as you go from seasoned foragers and professional mycologists.

This foray needs a leader. You don't need to know the area or be an expert, you just need to count heads and make sure no one is left behind in the woods. If you're interested contact Foray Coordinator Nessie Van Loan ([masked]) or find him at the next meeting.

Note that IMA forays happen rain or shine.

IMA foray locations are not posted publicly. Please see the newsletter for directions. If you do not have a copy of the newsletter, make sure you have paid your membership dues. http://www.illinoismyco.org/join

We now have a page for arranging carpools to IMA events:

The password is ima. It is a new system, so let us know how you like it. Please remember to offer to pay for gas.

Thought I'd make one last attempt before accepting I may have to forgo this one. Anyone driving from the city who might have room for one more in the car? I'm in need of a ride from Logan Square. Also, just an fyi, it looks like this foray is without a leader, so it's going to be fairly ad hoc. That said, the morels have still been coming in strong in the area, so there might be some fruitful foraging to be done.

Christy, the IMA loves new people to volunteer, so the position of foray leader, which consists of making sure nobody gets lost in the woods by circulating a sign-in sheet and taking a headcount at the end is always open to newbies. If there are no volunteers, then one of the board members steps up. We have a resident mycologist on our forays to ID specimens, so foray leader is more of a general administrative role than a site-specific or expert one. I'm so glad I picked you up today, because I loved getting a chance to chat. You're neato!

I had such a great time and was so grateful - for both the ride and the stellar conversation! Thank you so much. And I'm definitely getting up to speed on the different roles people can play on the forays. I'll volunteer one of these days in exchange for the many generous drivers who've spirited me from place to place. Looking forward to the next outing.

Hi all. I'm looking for a ride from the city for the Memorial Day foray. I live in Logan Square, but can meet anywhere convenient for someone with an extra seat in their car. Anyone willing/able to take along a passenger? Happy to contribute to gas costs. Thanks so much. (I tried the rideshare page but found it a little counter-intuitive, so I'm not sure it went through).

Ezio, I haven't seen the exact location either but it seems to be in Glenview, so as much as I'd love to hitch a ride, it looks like you wouldn't come into the city to get there. Hoping Nessie can weigh in and give us some insight on location and potential rides for us city folks without wheels.

Oops, I take it back. I tracked down the location in the most recent newsletter. If anyone needs it, feel free to email me at [masked].

Nessie, will this foray still happen if there are just two of us? If so, would it be possible for me to hitch a ride (I live in Logan Square but don't own a car). I know Josh Catrambone had hoped to drive but his car option fell through. It's possible he might want to attend as well if he could secure a ride. Thanks!
