Members Presentation: Show & Tell

Jeff Norman & Dianne Black have kindly volunteered to present a selection of work as part of our Show & Tell series.

It is not easy to show your work at the best of times even more nerve racking when presenting to a room full of other photographers. So give your support and encouragement by committing to attend this event. Places are limited to 35 people - so hurry and claim your place - RSVP.

This will give you a chance to mix and mingle with others and ask specific questions of the presenters if you are to shy for Q&A.

Jeff Norman: My perspective on photographing women

Jeff has a passion for taking photographs of women in nature and in the studio. He will be talking about what other artists have influenced him and how he has progressed as a photographer in determining his own style and perspective for the genre. This is not a 'how to guide' but a personal approach and perspective he would like to share.

"I have been interested in art and photography since I was a teenager. I became a photographer because I wasn’t a very good painter.

My preference was always to photograph people. “I need someone to talk to.” These pictures divided into 2 main themes. One was family and friends - my children and, now, grandchildren. The other subject I particularly enjoyed was photographing women.

This work ranged from portraits to artistic nudes both in the studio and in the landscape. Having won several camera club competitions in the early to mid-1990s, I then moved on to become an LRPS and started working towards my ARPS. However I was soon distracted for many reasons, both photographic and non-photographic.

My interest in photography was resurrected yet again when I came to NZ in November 2011 and I have done several shoots at West Auckland beaches. I would like to continue to explore the photography of the nude, especially in landscapes. I don’t want to join a camera club but thought I might try to become a Licentiate or Associate of the Photography Society of New Zealand.

I am hoping that, by preparing and giving this presentation, I will move closer to deciding where to take my photography."

Dianne Black: Alcatraz to Alaska – One persons perspective

"I am an amateur photographer with a love of derelict buildings, nature and travel.  Love the vintage era of the 50’s - the cars the fashion the fun.  By day I import granites and basalts by night I ferret away editing my photos or training for the Auckland Quarter Marathon.

A chance to share my photos from last years trip to San Francisco, Vancouver and Alaska"

Show & Tell Volunteers:

We have a number of events such as this lined up for the next 2 months and just awaiting date and venue confirmations.

We would love for more members to take part and dust off those digital files and share with the us. It gives us a chance to get to know you better and the opportunity to experience and learn about your specific techniques and any advice you may have to impart to help us grow as creative photographers.
