Art Jam & Picnic - "Thing In The Park"

Federal Park (map)

Selected By: sqgl

(free) Art/Music jam in a Glebe park.
BYO drinks and food. There is free BBQ and a huge fenced playground for kids.

This is the Sydney branch of the global "Share" network collaborating with the "Thing In The Park" crew who also supply the infrastructure and logistics. Most of the people coming have nothing to do with Meetup but it would be nice to have a contingent.

Artists, sculptors and photographers, PhotoShoppers, jugglers etc please bring your tools/toys, come early and get busy with what turns you on. Your creations will then be photographed, manipulated and integrated with laptops VJ's and at least two video projectors come nightfall.

The sound system is lush; built by our hifi buffs Ben and Horst using "D-Class' amplifiers and high efficiency speakers. For a higher-resolution version of the flier click here

Different location this time and beginning earlier, probably beginning with with ambience again as per this video from our last event...

We will slowly ramp it up to minimal techno. Simon's video gives you an idea of the style.

The marking on the meetup/google map is accurate. Use it!

Perfect weather, all went smoothly. Peaked at about 25 people; total of about 35 people came over the course of the event. Some "outsiders" also sat on the fringes enjoying the music. Even had a few locals come join us and ask when the next one will be. Eventually one local complained so Councail Rangeres shut us down at 7:40 rather than 9pm. Yup, one is all it takes. Looks like the next one will be back at Surry Hills where we won't be hassled.

Special thanks to subpixel for public transporting and sharing his projector, laptop, skills and aesthetics for the evening. Peregrin too for making beautiful sounds with others he had not met before. I was fortunate to get a lift there (with all my music/video gear) with Carlo one way & Maritza the other.

My only complaint is that we got shut down before we could peak with a dancing session finale.

I didn't know what to expect of the day but it was quite a surprise in a really good way. Great weather, people, music, art and visuals and great soundsystem. Too bad one complaint (god knows where they were because there wasn't a house in sight) ended things early but I'm glad I made it along. A lovely way to spend a sunday afternoon.
