Regretfully, we've never met in person, and hopefully, that will be resolved sooner or later but, let me say that; photography for me has always been a business, and in that regard I was very successful. For the almost two years that I've been a member of this group, I've enjoyed Dave Silverberg arranging programs, as well as, the polite repartee between us before and after the meetings at the Bruckner Bar & Grill. My concerns were very simple; I saw the monthly meeting as a night out, where I didn't have to cook dinner and I had the opportunity to talk “shop “ with my peers and contemporaries. Most recently the group had a few photo shoots that I'm sorry to say were disasters. This may sound a little harsh and if it does I apologize but, the shoots were nothing more than a bunch of guys with very expensive equipment playing at being paparazzo’s.
My personal background is that of a classically trained portrait photographer which allowed me to branch out to do
commercial, product, editorial work, as well as shooting a great many weddings over the years. As I look back on my professional life, the most enjoyable to me was the wedding photography. I was invited into people's lives and treated as a much respected uncle, as it were, to document a special event. This allowed me to produce images using all styles of photography, and since it was a onetime event I had to be on my toes to produce a quality product. The availability of a re-shoot just doesn't exist in this case. The drawback was that in being a studio owner, one had to accept most assignments and jobs that came along to pay the bills. I never had, the luxury of burning film, or nowadays generating pixels, only to say; that one out of a hundred frames were “marketable”, somewhat.
May I say your suggestion, of meeting on 23 June at the "Mermaid Day Parade" http://www.coneyi... on Surf Avenue in Brooklyn was an excellent suggestion, and hopefully it will be accepted as our next meet up. It's on fortunate that you said that you would be unable to attend the festivities. In either case, it would be an opportunity for the group to get together.

> I received an email inquiry asking if we'd be open to meet up ideas. Of course we are! If you have an idea for a shoot, let's hear it. I've added a "Discussion" on the meetup page. Feel free to post your idea. It just may be the subject for our next meetup.
