MCC International Film Series - "The Sapphires"

Manchester Community College's International Film Series for Fall 2013 contains films from Australia, Spain, USA, and UK.  There will be an optional brief discussion, along with a potluck dessert, after each film.

The Sapphires (Australia) - Inspired by a true story, THE SAPPHIRES follows four vivacious, young and talented Australian Aboriginal girls from a remote mission as they learn about love, friendship and war when their all girl group The Sapphires entertains the U.S. troops in Vietnam in 1968. Chris O’Dowd stars as the talent scout who bills them as Australia’s answer to The Supremes. 103 mins. Biography/Comedy. English. Rated PG-13.    http://thesapphires-movie.com/

Movie a bit trite in some elements but interesting to see how the issues of race played out - learned more about how Australia treated abos and in the after-discussion we discussed how it reflected the ways USA treated people also.

Loved loved this movie. Sorry I didn't sit with the entire group. Loved the fact that margo even had blue in her hair but I didn't see her until the discussion upstairs. :)

One of the best movies I have seen in a long time! Great singing and dancing and good story. A movie I would watch over and over. A feel good movie.

I'm sorry, we won't be able to attend September 20. My husband and I forgot we have something going on, but we'll see you guys at MCC in October. We'll looking forward to getting back together with this group. Monika and Jack
