Oscar Nominated Shorts - Animated

Web site for trailer

An annual event for our group, I've always loved the chance to see animation features from around the world. This year is no exception.

A quick summary:

• "Feral" (USA), a wild boy, found in the woods and brought back to civilization, tries to adapt to a new environment

•  "Get a Horse!" (USA), an homage to the first shorts featuring Mickey Mouse, with all-new, black-and-white, hand-drawn animation

• "Mr. Hublot" (Luxembourg/France), about a withdrawn, idiosyncratic character made partially of mechanical parts whose life is turned upside down by the arrival of the dog Robot Pet

• "Possessions" (Japan), in which an 18th Century man, lost on a stormy night deep in the mountains, enters a small shrine that suddenly turns into a room in a different world

• "Room on the Broom" (UK), based on the children's picture book by Julia Donaldson, about a kind witch who invites a surprising collection of animals to join her on her broom, much to the frustration of her cat.

Since this is an early afternoon meetup and lighter fare, I'm not doing a dinner discussion afterward. Rather, those who are interested can join me after at Sweet Action Ice Cream - 52 S. Broadway for a treat and a quick review.

There is no group charge for this meetup, but you have to buy your own ticket and ice cream.

See you there.

Enjoyed the diverse program from the shadowy/abstract "Feral" to the mechanical realism of "Mr. Hublot". My guess is the latter one will win the Oscar, but the fun of the overall program is why I love this yearly feature.

The Lady in Number 6, and CaveDigger were my favs - only 1 doc left - "The Killing" - getting tired of WAR & MAYHEM - really liked 20 Feet from Stardom, but didn't think doc feature noms are THE BEST overall.

Darn can't make it. Looking forward to the next one. Will you be scheduling the live action shorts? The shorts at the SIE were spectacular - unfortunately they're over for now.

Advance tickets are a good idea, but there should be plenty of seats available at showtime.

Tina - program's on first floor so there's plenty of seats, but allow about :30 as ticket line can be slow.
