Fading Gigolo

It has been a long time since Woody Allen starred in a film he's not directed, but here he is in John Turturro's "Fading Gigolo" in the lead....

Murray is going-out-of-business as a New York bookseller, and is pals with Fioranvante, who runs a modest florist shop. When Murray's beautiful dermatologist Dr. Parker mentions she's looking for a man to participate in a threesome with her and her equally gorgeous friend Selima, Murray recognizes the financial potential of this proposal and sets about convincing Fioravante to consummate the deal.

Tuturro's talents as both writer and director mix well with his acting, and we find here a story of both comedy and commerce, intimacy and wit. To view the trailer and a synopsis, click on this link:   Fading Gigolo - Web site

We'll be doing the 4:30 showing, and Iwill be in the lobby by 4:15 (I'll comfirm the showtime by email on Friday).

Dinner/discussion will be at Yanni's, just south of the theater in Landmark Square. Their food and excellent service last time we went deserves our patronage.

Please keep your RSVP current. If your plans change or your friend can't come, update it so I have an accurate count for the restaurant....PLEASE!!

Was very impressed with Turturro's direction of this movie. It captured the diversity of New York City's different climates all with beautiful set details and cinematography. It was also fun to see the contrast between Manhattan's elite and the street life of the Chasidic Jewish community...such very different worlds. A warmly human film on many levels.

Yanni's was great, so welcoming and amazing food. But I do have to chastise those of you who didn't show up. It's embarrassing to make a reservation for 15 and have 6 people show. I'm going to make some changes in policy since this is becoming a constant problem.

Jeff always picks interesting films. Enjoyed the film, the location(free popcorn and drinks!) and Yanni's - great food and atmosphere. Really enjoyed the movie. Turentino was fascinating to watch as an actor and a director.

Saw it on Saturday. Should be a good discussion with a lot of diverse opinions. There was rich texture in the look, sets, camera angles, and score. However the story and character relationships seemed ill defined. I felt like I walked in 10 minutes late. Reading the comments by John Tuturro I think for me he hit the nail on the head... "it easily went off the rails". Woody Allen reinventing himself as a pimp with a group of kids in an ill defined relationship... and that seemed like a good idea... because???
