Who are your favorite filmmakers?

Coen Brothers, Richard Linklater, Todd Haynes, David Cronenberg, Peter Weir, Stanley Kubrick, Roman Polanski, Russ Meyer, John Waters

What are some of your favorite movies?

Under the Skin, Fearless (1993), Before Sunrise, Baby It's You, Blade Runner, Liquid Sky

What lessons could the Hollywood studios learn from independent or foreign filmmakers?

I don't like to think of these as opposites. There are still great Hollywood films (and certainly were in Hollywood's most adventurous days) and there are plenty of awful independent films. Either way great filmmaking is a campaign against cliche.
