Liam Finn (w/Eliza Jane) is playing Rock and Roll Hotel on Tuesday Nov 3. I saw him open up for Laura Veirs some time ago and was really impressed with how his songs tend to be pretty and gritty at the same time. For those of you who don't like the use of looping devices, this probably isn't the show for you. I am guessing he still does not play with a full band (just Eliza), so they use looping guitars and drums in order to develop a fuller sound on stage. Also, for those Crowded House fans out there, Liam is the son of Neil Finn, and this influence is apparent in his music. Doors are at 8

By a very very narrow margin, it looks like Built to Spill won the day at the Polls, and so as promised a Meet-Up for you! Built to Spill @ the 930 will be a late show (following Colbie Cailat & Howie Day, bleh), so doors don't open until 10:00. Having spent way too much time down there, I can assure you there's plenty of good food and good drink to be had before hand, though. Off the top of my head, there's Duffy's, DC9, Chix, Dukhem, and I'm sure the list goes on and on. It's been a while since I've "organized" anything so I figure I might as well get on the ball... Dinosaur Jr is one of those bands I've been listening to since high school. Maybe that makes them (or me) old, but Farm is just an amazing album. Perhaps it has something to do with all of the original members coming back together again... That said, if you love amazing guitars a whole lot of distortion and aching lyrics this is probably the show for you...

I have a hard time describing this band, but they have a very heavy complex sound that combines prog rock, punk, metal, and ambient/electronica. And they put on a good live show. I will be there when doors open and can be reached on my cell (will email the day before the show). Show is $20 and tix should still be available the day of the show.
