"Balto" (www.baltoamerica.com/), which hails from Portland Oregon is an up and coming Folk/Americana/Rock/pop band that has been accurately compared to Bon Iver, Fleet Foxes, Okkervil River, and Dawes and has been called a band to watch for. One reviewer said that their "October Road" album was the best he'd ever seen or heard. Another reviewer said that they were the best unsigned artist he had ever come across. "Becky Warren and the Great Unknowns" is a local band that is definitely on its way to great things. Amy Ray of the Indigo Girls heard their most recent new album and liked it so much that she decided to have her own independent label distribute it.Becky Warren has been nominated for numerous Americana awards and is the winner, several years ago, of the Grand Prize in the Mid-Atlantic Song Contest for her song "I wish I was the Girl I was".
