Man Man

1st show of this tour! Man Man will be taking their wonderfully riotous live show on the road in support of their acclaimed album Life Fantastic, starting February 7th in Washington, DC. Man Man is an experimental band from Philadelphia. They are known for their bizarre live performances similar to those of The Mars Volta and Mr. Bungle. They are also known for their multi-instrumental style that centers on the piano playing of lead singer/lyricist Honus Honus accompanied by a wide variety of other instruments played by the rest of the band. Personally, I love Honus Honus's deep voice and the strange sense of humor that comes through in the lyrics. I saw him when he did a mini tour of his Mister Heavenly side-project, and it was a fantastic show - LOTS of energy. I expect this one to be even better.

Listen at

Joining Man Man will be Murder By Death, a punk band that considers horror movie soundtracks to be their main influence. With a cellist in the group and concept albums about zombies and devils, MBD may be some of the gloomiest indie-rockers out there.

I actually like murder by death better but Man Man had a lot of great music but was pretty tired by the time they took the stage.

I was disappointed as the organizer because only 4 people of the 15 RSVPs tried to find me or check in at the show.

In case anyone RSVPs after I sent this out, this is how you get in touch with your organizer for this Meetup: I'll send you another message when I arrive at roughly 8 pm on Thursday, but if you want to be super prepared for Man Man on Thursday, save my cell number 703.608.7828. I think I might try to get a spot on the platform that's on the house-right side of the room, between the bar and the sound guy. I saw Japandroids from there and for once I could actually see! (I'm 5' 5".) Thanks! Anita
