Suggestions for an alt-dance playlist

I just posted that I'm looking for a DJ for my birthday party, but plan B is to give a top-40 DJ my iPod. So I'm working on a playlist and I've discovered that I need more actual dance tunes with very dancy beats to them. I like modern indie/alt rock with vocals - so no trancy hyno-beat style rave music for me. Remixes are fair game. What do you suggest? Thanks! Anita

Anita, here's a link to a spotify playlist I've made. Not all the songs are typical dance songs, but they might be a good start for a party mix. Also, it's pretty long so you should be able to find at least a few good dance-y tracks to get the party started. Enjoy!

Hi Anita. A few tracks I really enjoy dancing around to: Dandy Warhols (Get Off, Shakin', Bohemian Like You, The Last High, tons of others), Nada Surf (Inside Of Love), Eels (Love of the Loveless), Rhett Miller (Out of Love), Pearl Jam (Last Kiss), David Bowie (Ashes to Ashes), Billy Idol (White Wedding), Social Distortion (Machine Gun Blues), the Walkmen (The Rat). Enjoy!

Thanks for the suggestions! Here's my playlist on Spotify, in case anyone wants to use it: http://open.spotify.c...

It's 56 songs/3 hours of music starting with mellow dinner music and building to dance music.
