Budget Movie Meetup: Man of Steel

Join us for the next budget Meetup, the Meetup of choice for the budget conscious film fan. See a new Hollywood release at the before noon bargain showtime followed by post-movie discussion over lunch.

Next up is the new Superman movie MAN OF STEEL starring Henry Cavill. It was directed by Zack Snyder and features a stellar supporting cast: Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, Diane Lane and Kevin Costner as Ma and Pa Kent, Michael Shannon as General Zod, and Russell Crowe as Jor-El.

This month we're at the AMC Traders Point 12. Meetup time is 10:15 and showtime is 10:30. Please note that's a 2D show. Running time is about 2 hours, 20 minutes and you can expect 20 minutes of previews at the AMC.

The group convenes in the main lobby (past the ticket taker in the vicinity of the concession stand) before the movie; we generally take our seats about 10 minutes before showtime. If you miss us before the movie, we also gather in the hall/lobby outside the auditorium before heading on to the restaurant.

Please note we're meeting on the third Saturday of June instead of the normal second Saturday (because the new movie for the second Saturday is THE INTERNSHIP and I refuse to see that).

This event repeats every second Saturday. The location rotates among the three AMC multiplexes (Southern Plaza, Castleton Sq, Traders Point).

I liked the movie. It was different from the conventional story of how he came to earth and the Daily Planet. However, all the action became a blur after a while

Dan and I enjoyed the movie, but for me I was really getting tired of all the fighting. It seemed to go on and on and on.

OK for a summer action movie especially at the bargain price. Liked the handling of the background story of his origin--felt strongest performances were given by Russell Crowe and Michael Shannon. Also enjoyed the updated character story line for Lois Lane. The special effects in the fighting sequences were deafeningly loud and went on way too long--got annoying. Some heavy handed symbolism, a few odd story line choices and occassional missteps, but overall OK for spending a couple hours on a summer action, super hero movie.
Very good and varied discussion group after--nice to get info from some of the more intense film buffs who made comparisons to other movies.

Discussion was very good. Movie was a mixed bag. Loved it as a sensory experience but the actors just weren't given enough to work with.

I'm afraid I'll have to bow out -- my employers have scheduled mandatory overtime, and I'll have to work in the morning to do so. :( I'll try to catch the film elsewhere, but I hope everyone has a good time anyway. :)
