"Much Ado About Nothing" at Keystone Art Cinema

Joss Whedon's modern dress adaptation of Shakespeare's MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING has earned raves on the festival circuit. Alexis Denisof and Amy Acker star as Benedict and Beatrix, the quintessential romantic comedy couple. Showtime is 7 and Meetup time is 6:45 in the lobby. Running time is 1 hr, 50 minutes; the Landmark typically has about 10 minutes of commercials and trailers. After the movie we'll move to the Indie Lounge, the bar attached to the theater, for discussion and socializing.

Thoroughly enjoyed this version--thought the choice to present it in black and white and in a contemporary home in CA worked very well once we got past adapting to the old english language. After a few minutes the mind clicks in and then easily follows the action and gist of the words. Delightful broad physical comedy well played as well as great timing and delivery of lines.

Not just any contemporary home: the house this movie was filmed in is Joss Whedon's. He also filmed this piece in secret while he was working on "The Avengers" over the course of 12 days; it certainly doesn't look like a quickie film, which makes it more impressive, in my opinion.

This was a remake of the shakespeare play much ado about nothing. This film is a very deep film about human sexuality and the involvement of young men and women in their relationships. I enjoyed the testing of the young bride's worthiness to be a bride when her groom and her battle it out at the altar. Good show with deep meaning. Can watch this show over and over and derive new meaning from it. Old English is quickly spoken and hard to understand.
