Budget Movie Meetup: The Family

Join us for the next budget Meetup, the Meetup of choice for the budget conscious film fan. See a new Hollywood release at the before noon bargain showtime followed by post-movie discussion over lunch.

For September we'll see the mafia comedy THE FAMILY. A mobster (Robert DeNiro) in witness protection relocates to a sleepy village in France with his wife (Michelle Pfeiffer) and teenage children. They can't leave their old ways behind them and havoc ensues. Tommy Lee Jones is the unlucky agent in charge. Luc Besson directed.

The location this month is the AMC Traders Point 12. Meetup time is 11:15 and showtime is 11:30. Running time is 1 hour, 50 minutes and we can expect about 20 minutes of trailers at the AMC.

The group convenes in the main lobby (past the ticket taker in the vicinity of the concession stand) before the movie; we generally take our seats about 10 minutes before showtime. If you miss us before the movie, we also gather in the hall/lobby outside the auditorium before heading on to the restaurant.

This event repeats every second Saturday. The location rotates among the three AMC multiplexes (Southern Plaza, Castleton Sq, Traders Point).

Movie was a bit different than i expected from trailers--less typical humor, more subtle/darker humor. Actors did a good job and i enjoyed some of the inside jokes (like referencing Goodfellas). Think it was less successful when the hit squad comes in with overkill, but don't know how else they could work out the ending. Overall a decent couple hours of entertainment--definitely worth a budget movie rate.

Not to be taken too seriously movie comedy with most of the funny bits already seen in the trailer and a more violent finish: $6 -
Discussion, food and fellowship afterwards: priceless.

Surprised myself with how much I enjoyed the movie. Good to see Besson behind the camera again.

How much does the movie cost? Not that it matters compared to the concession stand. Just wondered.

Tickets are $6 for before noon weekend shows at the AMC theaters. There's a surcharge for 3D movies, which this is not.
