The IMAX Theater downtown just started showing a series of art house films, and this week's movie is the very well-reviewed comedy Computer Chess, which won an award at this year's Sundance Film Festival for "its offbeat and formalistically adventurous exploration of questions of articial intelligence and human connections".
From the official site: "Set over the course of a weekend tournament for chess software programmers thirty-some years ago, COMPUTER CHESS transports viewers to a nostalgic moment when the contest between technology and the human spirit seemed a little more up for grabs. We get to know the eccentric geniuses possessed of the vision to teach a metal box to defeat man, literally, at his own game, laying the groundwork for artificial intelligence as we know it and will come to know it in the future."
The movie starts at 7, so I've set the Meetup for 6:45, and I'll try to be there myself a little before 6:45. For those of you who haven't been to the theater before, you can park in the museum's underground garage, and the theater will validate your parking.
I hope to see you there!
