"Dallas Buyers Club" at Landmark Keystone at the Crossing

Matthew McConaughey stars in Dallas Buyers Club as real-life Texas cowboy Ron Woodroof, whose free-wheeling life was overturned in 1985 when he was diagnosed as HIV-positive and given 30 days to live. These were the early days of the AIDS epidemic, and the U.S. was divided over how to combat the virus. Ron, now shunned and ostracized by many of his old friends, and bereft of government-approved effective medicines, decided to take matters in his own hands, tracking down alternative treatments from all over the world by means both legal and illegal. Bypassing the establishment, the entrepreneurial Woodroof joined forces with an unlikely band of renegades and outcasts—who he once would have shunned—and established a hugely successful "buyers club." Their shared struggle for dignity and acceptance is a uniquely American story of the transformative power of resilience. Also starring Jennifer Garner and Jared Leto, Dallas Buyers Club is directed by Jean-Marc Vallée (The Young Victoria).

Tickets are $10.00, and showtime is 7:15 PM.  Our group will be sitting in the area near the concession stand. After the film we'll head to the Indie Lounge to discuss it. Hope to see you there!

Much as I wanted to see this, I have come down with a cold and you all wouldn't appreciate having to listen to me sniffle, cough and sneeze throughout the film so I am going to have to bow out...

Bill and I had a chance to catch the film on Sunday. Matthew McConaughey continues to surprise me. He and Jared Leto do an excellent job. Had not been aware of the real life story till now--not sure how much this is actually true versus "based on a true story". My only disappoitment was Jennifer Garner--she just doesn't work for me in this role (or most others i've seen). Definitely a worthwhile movie--will be interested to hear what others have to say about it.
