"Triad Election" at Gary's

Hey everyone, I'll be showing director Johnnie To's "Triad Election" at my place.  The film stars Louis Koo and Simon Yam.

Wo Shing is Hong Kong's oldest Triad Society. Under the leadership of it's current chairman, it has become the most feared crime organization in the city. Jimmy (Louis Koo) is a twenty-first century gangster with an M.B.A. who wants to go clean by building a legitimate business empire. It's time to elect a new chairman and Jimmy seems to be the perfect candidate. The only problem is, Jimmy wants out. The Chinese government comes to him with an offer: Become Wo Shing's next chairman and return you'll receive the governments full backing of your business empire.  However the current chairman Lok has no intention of stepping down and sets in motion a bloody chain of events to ensure his second term.

Feel free to bring a drink or a snack to share. After the film we'll head to "Yat's" for dinner and discussion. Hope to see you there!

This is a fantastic movie on all counts. To uses the triad movie genre to make a not-so-thinly veiled critique of post-handover Hong Kong political realities. The sequel is also excellent.
