Friday nights in January and February mark your calendars for the 2014 Winter Nights Film Series at the IMA. The series theme this year is comedies; mostly classic Hollywood. January's lineup moves through the decades from the '30s to the '80s, while February's is dedicated to the great comedians of the silent era.

This week's movie is Woody Allen's 1979 comedy MANHATTAN, considered by many critics his best film. Co-starring with Allen are Diane Keaton, Michael Murphy, Mariel Hemingway and Meryl Streep.

The movie starts at 7 in the Toby theater. We'll meet at the seating area of the Toby lobby at 6:45. If you can't make it before showtime, look for us in the lobby after the movie as we gather for post-movie discussion.

Tickets are $9/ $5 for IMA members and can be purchased, at the museum or online, in advance or on the evening of. Saw this movie when it first came out and had forgotten how good it was--Love the black and white shots of NYC and of course the bold Gershwin score--also nice to know the humor still stands up after all this time. Classic Woody Allen with jokes about life, death, relationships and lots of love for NYC.

Loved the cinematography and music that made it a love letter to "the city". Glad I could see it for the first time on the big screen.
