"Battles Without Honor or Humanity pts 1 and 2" (1973) at Gary's

Hey everyone, I'll be showing the first two parts of director Kinji Fukasaku's "Battles Without Honor or Humanity" series.  Don't worry, each film is complete onto itself, but seeing all 5 films will give you the full scope of the story.  I'll schedule parts 3-5 at some later date.  These films are based on the life and times of Kozo Mino, a Yakuza crime boss and has been compared favorablly to the American "Godfather" films.

Part one is "Battle Without Honor or Humanity".  The year 1947: In the teeming black markets of postwar Japan, Shozo Hirono and his buddies find themselves in a new war between factious and ambitious yakuza. After joining boss Yamamori, Shozo is drawn into a feud with his sworn brother's family, the Dios.  That's when the chivalry ends and the hypocrisy, betrayal, and assassinations begin.  This film is 99 minutes.

Part 2 is "Fight to the Death at Hiroshima."  The Year 1952: Repeatedly beat to a pulp by gamblers, cops, and gangsters, lone wolf Shoju Yamanaka finally finds a home as a Muroka family hit man and falls in love with boss Muroka's niece. Meanwhile the ambitions of mad dog Katsutoshi Otomo (Sonny Chiba) draws our series' hero Shozo Hirono into a new round of bloodshed. This film is 100 minutes.

Coming soon: Part 3: "Proxy War", Part 4 "Police Tactics", and Part 5 "Final Episode".

Feel free to bring a drink or a snack to share.  We'll order some pizzas before the films. Hope to see you there!

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
