When: Friday, August 20,[masked]:00 PM

Where: Gary's house

I guess the theme for this event is "Stuff I bought at GenCon". First up is "Message from Space". This film was made in 1978 and was "inspired" by "Star Wars". It stars Sonny Chiba and Vic Morrow who play two of the eight chosen ones who need to save the earth from the metal-skinned aliens called the Gavanas. It was directed by Kinji Fukasaku who later directed "Battle Royale". This film has everything, Heroic space mercenaries, a spaceship with sails, and a miniskirted heroine. It also has a cute robot, but that's par for the course with this type of film.

Next is "Oldboy", an action thriller from South Korea. Oh Dae-su is an ordinary businessman and after a drunken night on the town, he is abducted and locked up in a strange, private prison for 15 years. He is unexpectedly freed, given a new suit, a cell phone, and 5 days to find out who imprisoned him. This film has one of the greatest fight scenes committed to film. It involves Oh Dae-Su taking on 15 men armed with only a claw hammer.

Feel free to bring a drink or snack to share. We'll order pizzas between the films. Hope to see you there!
